Day 39 Manchester State Beach to Ocean Beach 47 miles

So glad to have the fleecy blanket last night - it gets very cold at night - could be in Scotland!
Back to 5 layers today - long sleeved top, cycling top, gilet, windproof, waterproof!  Sea fret all day so pretty cold and grey. Not the most interesting ride of the holiday but we've managed to book a night in advance in a hostel in San Francisco on Wednesday night ( hope it's a better hostel experience than the Vancouver grotto!). And sorted out accommodation for 2 or 3 days in San Francisco with Rob's friend from Adventure Cycling so looking forward to a proper break then!  Rob's track phone has finally been put to use as we've got a signal at last.
Staying at a fairly remote state campsite tonight but only a mile from a bar and Grill so had a good meal tonight instead of pasta mixed with tinned soup!  On our return to the site the site host gave us brownies and icecream - they are so friendly and generous here.
Planning to do 65 miles tomorrow to get just north of San Francisco so long challenging day ahead.  Feels a bit like I'm on Big Brother or some reality challenge show - all vrry surreal.  It really is a bit like survival out here - ok sounds a bit melodramatic but it's true.  And a real test of relationships -  no further comment -  time will tell.......
One unexpected bonus is the sense of camaraderie built up between fellow campers as we meet up sporadically at different campsites on our way down south.  Some are travelling faster and some slower - sometimes on the same sites, sometimes not, all different ages, nationalities and backgrounds but we have a kind of common purpose - restores my faith in humankind if there is such a word.
Well, bed now.  We're in the woods tonight so all our food is in the bear box, my whistle is round my neck and the panniers are fastened together in case of racoon attack.  Only one other young Canadian couple as companions tonight -  much younger than us but so friendly and it's interesting to hear about their lives and why they're on this trip.
