Day 40 Ocean Beach to Samuel Taylor State Park 67 miles

Wow what a day - definitely the hardest so far in terms of the cycling.  But good weather so great views, and quiet roads made all the difference.  Started with 14 miles of rolling terrain along the coast which was very tiring and seemed to take ages.  I'll never manage 65 miles of this I thought.  However, the route improved after that and we clocked up another 20 miles which were much easier.  We stopped at Tomales for an icecream and were waylaid by a friendly fellow cyclist who gave us loads of useful information but which we didn't have time to absorb as we needed to press on.
I thought I was going to die during the last 15 miles - my legs could barely turn and my mind had gone completely numb.  But we finally arrived at the campsite at dusk and were very pleased to find the British couple we had met 3 days beforehand ,  Naomi and Andy, installed in the hiker/biker site.  They welcomed us with a cup of tea ( definitely English!) and after erecting the tent and a quick shower, we settled round the campfire and ate pasta and tinned soup - delicious!   We were joined later by a new arrival from the Czech Republic, Adam, who has been cycling in various countries for 18 months and had some interesting tales to tell.
We slept like logs after that - I have never felt so physically exhausted - even after 24 hours of childbirth labour!
