Day 41 Samuel Taylor State Park to HI Hostel Fishermans Wharf San Francisco 30 miles

The final leg after 24 days cycling without a break since leaving Quilcine following our camper van adventure.  Today was a lovely ride into the Sausalito area on the outskirts of San Francisco before we ascended the top of the hill to cross the Golden Gate bridge into San Francisco itself.  What a view! I couldn't believe Alcatraz is so close to the mainland - surely escaped prisoners could swim across?
We checked into the Fisherman's Wharf International Hostel feeling rather nervous given our hostel experience in Vancouver but it couldn't have been more different - clean, spacious, friendly  - great place to stay.  After locking up the bikes and showering, we went out into the Fisherman's Wharfe area of the city to eat.  Guess who we should see cycling past with his flag on the back of his bike?  Stefano - the delightful young man we had met a few days ago on 3 other campsites and shared a burrito breakfast in Fort Bragg.  What a coincidence - one in about 10 million I would say! Strange world,  isn't it?
Anyway 4 days off now for some much needed R and R.  We have cycled 1470 miles so far with about 600 still to go.  Have camped for the last 10 nights so need a bit of TLC to give us (or me at least) the strength to complete this challenge!  Blog will resume in 4 days!

  2. Major achievement! Well done! Just one question - why did Robert decide to do this particular route at this time of year???
