Having had a good night's sleep in a comfy bed (I still have a vague memory of such comfort), we pilfered as many free breakfast items as possible from the motel reception and set off from Ventura. The first part of the day's route passed through the affluent residential areas of the town which I found very interesting although Rob was concentrating more on the map and ensuring we made all the right turns. We also went through a large agricultural area with lots of fruit and veg being harvested.
Later we passed a US naval base and further along a US air base with some superb ex-airplanes on display (see photos). The rest of the route was on US1 but with a good wide shoulder and mostly flat so not too strenuous.
We stopped for lunch at a cafe on the state border line between Santa Barbara and Los Angeles where we were 'entertained' by a group of Mexican bikers doing illegal wheelies and U-turns in the middle of US1 crossing the state line!
Our planned destination for the night was a luxury campsite above Malibu Beach. It cost an extortionate $44 but we are the only campers here tonight (other than the ultra - luxurious camper vans) so we have the whole site to ourselves. We can see the lights of Los Angeles (our destination tomorrow) twinkling in the distance.......
