Complicated day today as we decided to cycle to Santa Monica train station and catch a train into central Los Angeles, spend an afternoon and night in the downtown area and then resume our route tomorrow by taking a designated cycle path to Huntington Beach in South LA.
The first 17 miles were very busy going into Santa Monica but there was a good shoulder so we passed most of the traffic queuing along the busy Santa Monica beach area. The beach was massive with lots of beach volleyball nets set up - we stopped for coffee at a lovely cafe overlooking the whole area towards LA. The waiter kindly drew us a map to the train station and Rob managed to work out the 'tap card' system so we could buy train tickets - all very complicated until you know how! Two trains later we were in downtown LA. We found our hotel on Main Street, had a quick shower and decided to get the metro to Hollywood which was only a few stops away. (We don't sit around for one moment on this trip you may have noticed!!!)
We found the Walk of Fame, saw the Hollywood logo on the hill, had a drink in a Hollywood bar and then returned to downtown for food and bed. 1989 miles done, about 150 to go - I'm exhausted!
