Woke up this morning to find my back tyre had a puncture. Fortunately my mechanic, aka Rob, sprung into action and used his considerable skills to quickly replace the inner tube, re inflate the tyre and so off we went to tackle the infamous 'Leggett'.
We had jaust started the ascent when a I heard a some swearing from behind. Shocked at such language I asked what was wrong only to be told that my back tyre looked flat again. Alas it was a recurrent puncture. Rob upturned my bike again and spent some time trying to find the problem. In the meantime, all the youngsters from our campsite cycled past us, kindly offering help but then continuing the slog up the hill! Undeterred, Rob located a rough patch inside the wheel rim, expertly filed it down, inserted another new inner tube ( my last one), re inflated the tyre and we set off again, fingers crossed.
Fortunately, he seemed to have resolved the problem which was just as well as there were no facilities at all for the next 30 miles!
We managed to get up the first hill (5 miles) pretty well, then followed a fantastic winding 7 mile descent - exhilarating! A steeper 3 mile ascent ensued by which time we were feeling rather more tired but not as bad as we'd anticipated. However the following 20 miles were exhausting. Beautiful coastline and scenery but very undulating so we arrived later than expected to not the best state campsite. We had little food with us so we decided to cycle the 3 miles into Fort Bragg to eat. Not a good idea - cycled along the beach path to Denny's, the nearest restaurant - I desperately needed a beer but they don't sell alcohol! We then had to return along the potholed beach track in pitch dark. Not good! But survived to tell the tale I guess.

I have a similar photo of Robert with upturned bike somewhere in Wales. No I did tell him to go tubeless but then he never listens to me.
