Day 18 Potlach State Park to Lake Sylvia State Park Montesano 52 miles

Rained solidly all night long although, fortunately, the tent did not leak.  Woke up in the rain, packed everything up and rode 12 miles in heavy traffic to a McDonald's for breakfast - see photo of Rob eating his hotcakes.  We then followed the interstate freeway for miles which was very busy and boring.  We concluded that the book outlining our route through Washington State is woefully inaccurate and needs updating to route cyclists on more interesting and smaller roads.  Very soon, however, we shall be following the Adventure Cycling route and maps which should prove much more interesting.
The weather improved somewhat in the afternoon so we stopped en route to unpack the tent, erect it on parkland and allow it to dry out as it was drenched from last night's torrential downpour.  We duly arrived in Montesano after 49 hard miles into the wind and followed the sign to Lake Sylvia State Park.  What a slog! Nearly 2 miles up a steep hill, followed by a sharp descent.  Lovely campsite with hot showers but we had no food so we cycled back into Montesano to eat.  Needless to say we then had to pedal back up the 2 mile route in the pitch dark to the campsite. Where is the sun?  I hear it's been in the UK since we left!
