Two great cycling days with decent weather, hugging the Pacific Coast with great views. Mainly followed route 101 but the traffic was much lighter. We stopped at the KOA campsite in Bay Center, famous for its oysters which both Rob and I avoided based on previous experience. Met some moose hunters and a single female motorcyclist at the campsite - takes all sorts!
The highlight of day 21 was leaving Washington State and crossing into Oregon via the 4 mile bridge across the Columbia River - what an experience! Due to the forecast for heavy rain we decided to stay overnight in Astoria and found a 1950's retro motel for only $75. What a bargain - and really nice too (but guess my standards have fallen significantly since meeting Rob ha ha).
As if we hadn't had enough exercise today, we picked up fish and chips from the infamous Bowpicker fish and chips restaurant (see photo) and legged it up the very long and steep hill to the Astoria Column. We then climbed the 162 steps up the column to see the magnificent 360° view for miles around (see photos).

So glad that Rob has gotten lazy (or smart) and Nicola is doing most of the writing. Finally some really compelling literature. Robs bogs are always better with "guest writers" on board. You are getting closer and I cannot wait to meet you Nicola. And a visit with Rob will be wonderful. I'm hoping you can stay in SF for a few days too. I have a spare car all set up.
