Day 5 Qualicam Bay to Chemainus 51 miles

After a great stay at the Sand Pebbles Beach Inn last night in pure luxury, feeling fully refreshed, we set off for a full day's cycling first thing this morning.  We're currently in the Horseshoe Bay Pub drinking beer to celebrate the fact that we are still alive having survived a total of 15 miles in 2 stints on what I would say was the M25 but Rob assured me that it was merely the Trans Canada Highway! Ok there was a hard shoulder but it was only about 18" wide in parts and with massive lorries zooming up behind it was scary!
On a positive note we are staying on a great campsite tonight in Chemainus - a beautiful little town steeped in history depicted by superb murals throughout the centre (see photos).
Tomorrow we are heading for Victoria which, according to our guide book, is  more English than England and supposed to be a bit like Harrogate with a harbour!

  1. Good luck with the Malahat summit tomorrow, it really is all downhill from there (at least as far as Victoria). Loving the blog so far, keep up the good work. :-)

  2. Murals are great. Not like Robert to get the route wrong? Does he need any help?
